Wetherill Park Outreach programmes for the disadvantaged groups in the Fairfield LGA are delivered in partnership with Public schools, primary and high school, Community Liaison Officers (CLOs). A range of various community organisations , Assyrian Australian Association, Chaldean Assn, Khmer Community Organisations, Vietnamese Association, Faith based organisations, churches and temples, Anglicare, Burnside.
English Language Skills at various levels of speaking, reading and writing Computer Literacy and Internet Use, Senior First Aid, Flower Arrangement and Home Based Business, Introduction To Welfare, Skills Of Volunteering Photography, Various Youth At Risk Programmes
Targets, Courses and Pathways:
The target groups for Outreach programmes are the disadvantaged. They include:
- non-english speaking migrants
- long-term unemployed
- mature age workers returning to work after a long absence
- indigenous groups
- those with special needs such as physical or intellectual disabilities
- youth at risk of leaving school
- clients from the Juvenile Justice System
End of course pathway surveys show some participants obtained employment, a few setup their own business a greater number continue their study in TAFE.
The success of Outreach programmes is due to the factor that the participants receive support on their pathway to further learning and/or in to employment.
